Approved Plan of Action of EDBU
for years 2008 - 2012

- To support the Resolution approved by the 6th
EBU Deafblind Conference on April 27, 2008 and
to implement some of its items;
- To seek for the signing and ratification of
the UN Convention on Rights of People with
Disabilities and its Optional Protocol by the
governments of European countries;
- To take an active part in the campaign for
the recognition of the definition of
deafblindness and for the recognition of
deafblindness as a unique disability;
- To develop and strengthen the efficient
cooperation with other international
organizations (WFDB, DBI, EDBN, EBU, IDA, Council
of Europe, European Union), for the achievement
of the above mentioned purposes;
- To support the emancipation movement of people
with deafblindness;
- To support the recognition, development and
keeping of the specific culture and language
identity of people with deafblindness;
- To support and respect the freedom of choice
and independence of people with deafblindness;
- To support the cultural, sport and social
activity of people with deafblindness;
- To support the development of personality,
talents and creativity of people with
deafblindness as well as their mental and
physical potential up to the highest level;
- To raise the awareness of general public
about people with deafblindness and their
problems, including the families of persons
with deafblindness;
- To participate in the research, development
and promotion of technical aids for people with
deafblindness;
- To get involved in European disability movement;
- To take an active part in matters concerning:
- Upholding the respect for the human rights
and the dignity of people with deafblindness;
- Protecting the rights of women with
deafblindness in European countries;
- Protecting the human rights of people with
deafblindness in Eastern and Central Europe;
- To seek fundraising for EDBU. To set up a
committee or a position as coordinator for
liaising with the European Union;
- To develop the EDBU homepage (to set up a
position as homepage moderator);
- To consider the possibility of taking
responsibility for arranging the European
Deafblind Holidays (for example, to set up a
position as coordinator for the implementation
of this project);
- To notify the Czech Ministry of the Interior
about amendments to the Constitution;
- To register EDBU in another country, if it
is considered necessary;
- To relocate EDBU registered address from Prague
to the country chosen by General Assembly if
this is considered necessary.
